Work of Nari Gandhi

The Art & Design Book Press at the Foundation ForArchitecture has published a monograph on the works of late Architect Nari Gandhi (1934-1993). This is the first monograph of Nari, the talented apprentice to Frank Lloyd Wright, featuring 87 photographs (by Bharat Ramamrutham & Uday Bandiwadekar) from eight of his built works. It includes short analytical essays on Nari's life and works by Canada based Architect-Poet-Calligrapher, Prof. H Masud Taj. It also includes a long poem “Domain of Inbetween” that occurred while Prof. Taj stayed in several of Nari’s houses. Though recited in several parts of the world, this is the first time the poem is being published in 25 plates in it’s original calligraphy.

Nari’s works manifest serenity. His works are dialogues between the built and the unbuilt, narrating the story of architecture as it emerges from the landscape, exists in harmony with the surroundings and remains deeply rooted in nature. His works are a mélange of structural ingenuity and skilled craftsmanship coalescing into highly imaginative expressions of 'Organic Architecture'.

Nari refused to define organic architecture and only invited you to experience it in his work. This book is in the spirit of that invitation.
